Hiking in the AdirondacksLooking to venture out from the campground for a day? Why not enjoy a day of hiking in the Adirondacks! Lake George Escape campground is located in the foothills of the majestic Adirondack Mountains region. A hikers paradise, the Adirondacks offers trails fitting for the entire family, with climbing experiences for the more seasoned hikers. After all, there is a reason why The Adirondacks were named among the “Top 46 Places to Go in 2013,” by The New York Times!

A perfect Adirondack summer vacation wouldn’t be complete without enjoying the fresh mountain air! Lake George Escape campground is just a couple of miles from Prospect Mountain, a smaller mountain suitable for family hikes with an amazing view of the Adirondack Mountains of New York and the Green Mountains of Vermont. Watch the enchanting steamboats of the Lake George Steamboat Company on the clear, blue water of Lake George while you eat your lunch at the summit of Prospect Mountain. Unable to hike? Prospect Mountain is the only mountain you can drive, park at the top parking area, and then take a trolley to the summit!

There are several well-marked Adirondack Mountain trails in the Lake George NY region as well! Black Mountain is a relatively easy hike and offers breathtaking views of northern Lake George ponds. Sleeping Beauty Mountain is a longer, but moderately easy hike, perfect for those looking for a day hike and perfect for kids! Prepare to want to hang around at the summit for a nice long picnic with one of the most spectacular “forever” views the Adirondacks has to afford.

The Gurney Lane Nature Trail in Queensbury NY is a 1.3 mile educational trail nature trail with a small trout-stocked pond perfect for those not keen on climbing mountains. Also nearby is the Charles Lathrop Pack Forest which has a 1-mile wooded trail perfect for younger children, older folks, or those with disabilities.

Perhaps you are seeking more of a challenge? A short drive away is Nippletop Mountain, the 13th of the 46 High Peaks. This trek will take you down towards lower Ausable Lake and when you reach the top, you will have an incredible view of the Great Range! This is a difficult nearly 13-mile hike, suited for the experienced hiker.

Lake George NY is a short drive to several other family-friendly and more trying mountain trails. Just ask your friendly staff at Lake George Escape Campground in Lake George NY for more information on hiking in the Adirondacks NY region!
